The unit combines a charged volume of gas separated from hydaulic fluid by a floating piston or the like, the charged gas volume restores the bumper to its original position after impact within the specific speed range. The unit is normally mounted to the vehicle frame on one end and bumper mounting accommodations on the opposite end.
